Live 3D High Definition at Showeast 2006
October 25, 2006 - Real D , a pioneer in live 3D video projection systems, has demonstrated the remote live event capabilities of it's 3D High Definition video camera for ShowEast attendees at the AMC 24 Theatre in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Live music and sporting events presented in 3D High Definition and surround sound may be in your local theatre as soon as the summer of 2007.

The twin Sony Cinealta 950 digital cameras were located street side on dolly tracks, shooting a musical performance by "Sound Factory", an Orlando percussion trio that performs on drum kit, plastic tubes and trash cans ala the Blue Man Group.

AMMP Recording Services was called on October 24th to provide live 5.1 surround sound in the film theatre, a multi-track record for historical archive, and live sound reinforcement on the street stage. That evening audio systems were designed and built on customized field production carts to expedite the audio set-up. At 5 a.m on the 25th, AMMP audio techs Nils Warren and Frank Rohrer loaded the gear into the AMC Theatre for a 7 a.m. rehearsal and an 8:30 a.m. show.

Live Band Surround Sound
The sound of the percussion instruments and surrounding ambience was captured using an assortment of DPA and Sennheiser microphones.
All of the audio inputs were patched into Tascam MA-AD8 preamps and actively split to the band's monitor system, to a Tascam MX2424 track hard disc recorder and to a Telecast fiber optic system. The video program and 24 audio inputs were transmitted over 1500 feet of fiber into Downtown Disney's AMC Theatre #19 where it interfaced with the theatre's existing projection and surround sound systems.

Frank Rohrer mixed Sound Factory's stage monitors on a 16 channel mixer by routing a prefader auxiliary buss to 1/3 octave equalizers and into the band's JBL EONS.
Mixing for Surround Sound
AMMP's prewired audio system was rolled into the theatre on electronic field production (EFP) carts. Nils Warren reproduced the band's live performance inside the movie theater using a 24 channel console that fed the theatre's Dolby 5.1 surround sound system.
